Santa Fe Environmental Services Division will incorporate Rubicon technology in fleet of hauling trucks
Will enable city to assess diversion and recycling rates, improve services
ATLANTA, March 07, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Rubicon Global today announced the launch of a public-private partnership with the City of Santa Fe that will help the City boost its environmental leadership by using technology to enhance its residential and commercial waste and recycling services. Starting this week, the City will use Rubicon’s proprietary technology platform, including its mobile app and desktop vendor software. The technology pilot program will provide valuable data to the City of Santa Fe and enable it to assess landfill diversion and recycling rates, as well as improve its services.
“Rubicon’s technology is enabling cities to achieve better service for citizens and improve quality of life by making communities more sustainable,” said Michael Allegretti, Head of Public Policy for Rubicon. “Santa Fe has long been a center of government innovation and this partnership is an example of its ongoing commitment to environmental leadership.”
“We are excited to partner with Rubicon to use technology to enhance our waste and recycling services,” said Santa Fe Mayor Javier Gonzales. “Santa Fe has long been committed to sustainability and conservation. This Smart Cities solution will boost the ability to meet our ambitious goals and deliver best in class customer service to our citizens.”
Smartphones loaded with the Rubicon hauler mobile app will be placed in the City of Santa Fe Environmental Services Division’s fleet of residential and commercial waste and recycling vehicles. The City currently has more than 40 trucks that service 29,300 residential and 2,500 commercial locations. The Environmental Services Division will also use Rubicon’s desktop vendor portal which works with the mobile app to create operational efficiency, improve customer service and will ultimately lead to savings for taxpayers.
The technology will also provide the City of Santa Fe with planning data, most notably by enabling real-time information on current landfill diversion and recycling rates. The data will help the City understand how to better focus its recycling education efforts, measure the carbon avoidance from recycling activities and determine vehicle emission reduction targets in the City’s waste fleet through route optimization and other features.
The partnership with Rubicon is the latest example of Santa Fe’s commitment to sustainability-related programs, projects and policies. The City has a 25-Year Sustainable Santa Fe Plan that encompasses a wide variety of initiatives to achieve the goal of being carbon neutral by 2040.
