Mayor Kirkland to Honor Chester Community Charter’s Award Winning Robotics Team as They Prepare for Their Trip to the National Robotics Competition

Chester, PA, April 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- This Friday, April 28th, 2017, at 9:30am, the Chester Community Charter School (CCCS) robotics team, “The Bionic Beasts,” will be honored at an intimate reception attended by Hon. Thaddeus Kirkland, Mayor of Chester.  Dr. David Clark, CEO of CCCS, will present the seven-member team and its coaches with trophies to recognize their achievements, as they head to the National Robotics Competition. The reception will be held at CCCS’s East Campus, in the administration boardroom.

“The Bionic Beasts” were awarded first place for Robot Performance and second place overall out of 31 teams at the First Lego League (FLL) competition, held at Central High School, in January.

CCCS’s robotics team was founded in 2013 by Mr. Daniel Aulisio, who started a Lego-building and robot club after receiving Lego Mindstorms Robot kits for CCCS’s after-school program. He saw the untapped potential in the school’s students, and believed that the FLL would be something students could enjoy while also broadening their understanding of applied engineering.

In 2015, after receiving an “FLL In The City” grant through the University of Pennsylvania’s Grasp Lab, Mr. Aulisio was able to expand the club into a full robotics team and students were able to participate in their first competition.
