Farmer’s Day is slated for Friday, June 9, 2017, and UFA Co-operative Ltd. (UFA) is planning a day-long co-operative celebration for its members and customers across its network of Farm & Ranch Supply Stores and Petroleum Agencies.
“Farmer’s Day is important to UFA, as it’s our way to honour and celebrate those members and customers who work tirelessly throughout the year, especially given the recent weather conditions experienced in many parts of the province,” says Carol Kitchen, UFA President and CEO. “Be sure to join us on Friday June 9th so we can say ‘Thank you’ and properly recognize all that you do for agriculture in Alberta!”
UFA is Alberta’s largest agricultural co-operative, and is using the day to partner with its many vendors to help honour those men and women who keep the agriculture industry strong and vibrant. As a way to thank them, UFA Farm & Ranch Supply Stores, along with UFA Petroleum Agencies are hosting a variety of farmer-focused special events to thank them for all their contributions to western Canada’s agriculture industry.
“It’s also important to recognize our many partners in our 2017 Farmer’s Day program,” says Kitchen. “We are extremely appreciative to work with Shell Canada, BASF, Bayer Crop Science, Meridian, Dow AgroSciences and Farm Credit Corporation, as these companies provide important support to our members and customers.”
In addition to the BBQ’s and events being held that day, many of the stores and agencies are accepting donations to support STARS Air Ambulance. Kids can also enter the Farmer’s Day Colouring Contest, (available for download at UFA.com/FarmersDay) for a chance to win one of five John Deere gators sponsored by Cervus Equipment. Six major network prizes also include a $700 outdoor package from Wholesale Sports, a livestock feeder and gift certificates from UFA. There are many other opportunities to win during Farmer’s Day, thanks to the generous donations from UFA’s vendors.
Farmer’s Day was first established at UFA’s annual convention in 1945. The Co-operative “passed a resolution to lobby the Alberta government to declare the day as a provincial holiday.” While the event has changed in scope over the years, it was revived by UFA in 2010 with a renewed sense of celebration.
