Craig Hospital Physicians and Staff Receive Top Honors from ASCIP, ACRM and BIAA

Dr. Alan Weintraub to receive distinguished ARCM Fellow Award in addition to the BIAA Sheldon Beroll, M.D. Clinical Service Award


Englewood, Colo. , Oct. 09, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Four staff members and physicians at Craig Hospital, a world-renowned rehabilitation hospital for people with spinal cord and/or brain injuries, have received industry honors for their service and excellence in practice from three of the industry’s top organizations. 

On October 27, Alan Weintraub, M.D., program director of the Brain Injury Program at Craig will receive two awards during the American Congress of Rehabilitative Medication (ACRM) Henry B. Betts Awards Dinner and Gala in Atlanta. Dr. Weintraub will receive a Fellow of ACRM designation, which recognizes members with an outstanding record of professional service to the organization and who have also made contributions of national significance to the field of medical rehabilitation.

Dr. Weintraub will also receive the Sheldon Berrol, M.D. Clinical Service Award from the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA), which is presented each year to an individual who, through a long service career, has made outstanding contributions to improving the quality of care, professional training, and/or education in the field of brain injury.

In addition, earlier this month at the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIP) Educational Conference and Expo in Denver, three prestigious awards were presented to Craig staff and physicians.

  • Daniel Lammertse, M.D., Emeritus Clinical Scientist and former medical director of Research at Craig, was honored with the James J. Peters Distinguished Service Award and delivered the associated lecture during the ASCIP Educational Conference and Expo. This award honors those who have made outstanding contributions to the care of those with spinal cord injuries or disorders (SCI/D), and have demonstrated dedication to achieving excellence in the care of people with SCI/D.
  • Ellen Severe, OTR, director of Occupational Therapy at Craig, received the ASCIP Therapy Council’s Distinguished Clinical Award.
  • Laura Wehrli, PT, DPT, ATP, Craig’s spinal cord injury physical therapy supervisor, was presented with the ASCIP Therapy Council’s Excellence Award.
