BETHLEHEM, Pa., Oct. 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- B. Braun Medical Inc., a market leader in regional anesthesia, has epidural and spinal anesthesia products with NRFit™ connectors available for sale in compliance with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 80369-6 and California State Legislation.
ISO standards for small bore connectors are intended to help prevent misconnections and improve patient safety. In accordance with ISO standards, all healthcare facilities are expected to transition to products that meet this standard for neuraxial and regional anesthesia. Additionally, California took legislative action to mandate that healthcare facilities transition to non-luer epidural products at the start of this year.
The current design of universal luer connectors poses the risk of inadvertent misconnections. The new NRFit connector design helps to avoid connections between medical devices meant for neuraxial administration and devices used for IV, enteral and other applications. By using devices with NRFit connectors, clinicians can help reduce the risk of misconnection between applications and help reduce medical errors.
“B. Braun has been at the forefront of preparing for this change,” said Peter McGregor, Director of Marketing, Pain Control at B. Braun. “We have taken an active role in helping our customers comply with the evolving industry safety standards, including transitioning to products with NRFit connectors. As a leader in regional anesthesia products and a strong advocate for patient safety, B. Braun is committed to providing the safest delivery of medications in healthcare settings to help improve patient outcomes.”
