New Frontier Data, the global cannabis industry authority in business intelligence and data analysis reporting, in partnership with The Green Hub, one of the first medical cannabis research and information platforms in Brazil, has just published its first in-depth look at the Brazilian nascent cannabis market, Medical Cannabis in Brazil: 2017 Overview, detailing the potential impact of medical cannabis legalization to the Brazilian market.
“Brazil’s continued interest in the potential legalization of medical cannabis is part of a global phenomena; dozens of countries around the world have in fact begun considering cannabis as a viable medicinal treatment for a variety of illnesses and conditions. Given Brazil’s vast land-mass, diverse eco-system, and strategically central geo-placement, it is quite logical that it would be looking into this promising plant, not only for domestic medical applications, but also to possibly expand its well-established export-base to countries unable to cultivate locally across Europe and Latin America,” said New Frontier Data Founder & CEO Giadha Aguirre de Carcer.
“There is currently great interest in the many different facets of cannabis in Brazil, whether for medical or adult-use, there is a growing appetite to understand the potential impact of cannabis legalization and regulation in Brazil. Working together, The Green Hub and New Frontier Data are best equipped to provide not only private firms but policy-makers and regulators, the data, assessment, and insights from legalization efforts around the world best to assess the potential legal, economic, and social impact cannabis could have on the country. These resources will be invaluable as Brazilian government officials examine and potentially design safe and legal medical cannabis legislation and programs,” said The Green Hub CEO, Marcel Grecco.
- If Brazil were to pass a medical cannabis law, the number of medical cannabis patients in the first 36 months of legal cannabis sales could reach 959,000 with a restrictive qualifying conditions list (i.e., one that does not include chronic pain), and roughly 3.4 million with a more expansive list of conditions that included chronic pain.
- A program that accepts chronic pain as a qualifying condition and reaches patient counts of 3.4 million patients could generate in excess of BRL $4.7 billion (USD $1.4 billion) in annual revenue.
The partnership between New Frontier Data and The Green Hub was forged to provide local, regional and country level regulators and legislators who are working on — or interested in — the development of the cannabis industry, the data they require to make informed and educated decisions. The Medical Cannabis in Brazil report is the initial step towards providing vetted and statistically meaningful socio-economic data, and accurate information on cannabis scientific methods, SOPs, test data and technologies for the Brazilian medical cannabis market.
“We could not be happier to have had the opportunity to partner with such an insightful and pioneering company as The Green Hub at such a pivotal time not only in Brazil, but also regionally as key trading players in this industry begin to arise,” said Aguirre de Carcer.
