VICTORIA, British Columbia, Dec. 07, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CUPE 410, Greater Victoria Public Library staff, welcomed 37 new members from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV) after a Labour Relations Board vote at the art gallery on November 30.
“Our members are a very diverse group who proudly provide library services to the citizens of and visitors to the Greater Victoria area,” said CUPE 410 President Helen Hughes. “We warmly welcome these new members. As cultural workers providing the public access to cultural and recreational resources, they are a good fit with our local.”
The workers at the AGGV are integral to every aspect of the Gallery’s operations. They provide curatorial services, exhibit design and preparation, gallery programming for visitors and members, as well as front desk services. They also manage the Gallery Shop and the art rental and sales program, coordinate membership and donor services, and also provide marketing and development, accounting, IT, security and custodial services.
CUPE 410 represents workers at the Greater Victoria Public Library including pages, circulation assistants (clerks), librarians, and branch supervisors to shuttle drivers, IT specialists, services and program coordinators. Including workers from AGGV, they now represent almost 300 workers.
“We look forward to getting to know our newest members and working with them towards their first collective agreement with CUPE,” said Hughes.
