TORONTO, Dec. 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Newly formed organization, Spartan Wellness, opened its doors this year with a clear objective to connect veterans and emergency service personnel to the services that they need to live healthy, happy and productive lives. As part of that mandate, Spartan Wellness wants to multiply the impact it can have and has made strategic donations to initiatives that support the same cause.
The donation was made to Soldier On, a fund under the umbrella of Support Our Troops; managed and operated by Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services. The program is committed to ensuring veterans and other serving members have the ability to overcome physical or mental health injuries through sport.
“Spartan Wellness was founded by a group of individuals who have all benefited greatly by programs like Soldier On," said Riad Byne, CEO and co-founder of Spartan Wellness. “We know the work that Soldier On does every day is so important and that is why we felt compelled to show our gratitude through this donation.”
Spartan Wellness found alignment with the Soldier On program as they both seek to enrich the lives of serving members.
“For Spartan Wellness, the focus is on providing the resources, access and tools to things like telemedicine services, transitional family medicine and family assistance,” said Riad Byne. “The work these inspiring individuals do can be very dangerous and incredibly high-stress. Spartan Wellness not only delivers the resources they need, but we can directly relate and empathize with each one.”
Soldier On is recognized for improving the quality of life of the ill and injured. The program is a highly visible and integral component of the Department of National Defense, and the Canadian Armed Forces’ commitment to the care of ill and injured members.
“Soldier On helped me understand my new normal. It’s because of them that we are here today and able to give to the many others who are serving or who have served,” said Riad Byne. “Being here at Parliament lets us show the public that when veterans work together, we can lift each other up to new heights.”
"The Soldier On mandate, as demonstrated at this hockey camp with the Ottawa Senators, is to support the recovery of ill and injured serving and Veteran members of the Canadian Armed Forces through the power of sport," said Jay Feyko, Senior Manager of Soldier On. "It is incredible and humbling to witness past Soldier On participants give back and help support more men and women who have served and sacrificed."
The presentation of the cheque was held immediately following the exciting annual Ottawa Senators Alumni vs. Soldier On hockey game, and was attended by contributor & CFL Alumni Michael Collymore, as well as other generous organizations who have made the donation possible.
