SMU COX Dean Matt B. Myers Rings NYSE Closing Bell®

Nearly 100 Year Old Business School Marks 40 Years as the Cox School

Dallas (SMU), Jan. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Matt Myers, dean of the SMU Cox School of Business in Dallas, rang The Closing Bell® from the podium of the New York Stock Exchange on Monday, January 8, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Myers traveled to New York with a delegation of SMU Board of Trustees and Cox Executive Board members.

“It’s a privilege to ring The Closing Bell at the New York Stock Exchange, especially at the start of a new year, with high hopes for more record-breaking growth,” said Myers. “As one of the nation’s leading business schools, we take pride in helping shape tomorrow’s business leaders, thus contributing to the success of the U.S. and the global economy.”

Among the podium contingent were SMU Board of Trustees Chair Michael Boone (BBA ’63, JD ’67); his wife, philanthropist Marla Boone; SMU Vice President for Development and External Affairs Brad Cheves; SMU Board of Trustees member Gerald Alley (MBA ’75), president and CEO of Con-Real, LP; SMU Board of Trustees member and Cox Executive Board member Tucker Bridwell (BBA ’73, MBA ’74); SMU Board of Trustees member Paul Loyd (BBA ’68), president of PBL Investments; and SMU Board of Trustees member and Cox Executive Board member David Miller (BBA ’72, MBA ’73), EnCap Investments, Founder and Managing Partner. Commander in the U.S. Navy.

Steve Booth (BA and BBA ’82), CEO of R.W. Baird; Kyle Miller (BBA ’01), president and CEO of Silver Hill Energy Partners; and Cox Executive Board member Kirk Rimer (MBA ’89), co-head and principal of Crow Holdings Capital Investment Partners, rounded out the podium party.

The bell ringing commemorates the 40th year since the Cox School was named for benefactor Edwin L. Cox. Two members of the Cox family, grandchildren John (BBA ’11) and Justin (BA ’08)—both partners in Cox Partners, Inc.—were on the podium when Dean Myers rang the bell. Their parents, Berry (’77)—Edwin’s son—and SMU Board of Trustees member Jeanne Tower Cox (BBA ’78), along with Justin’s wife, Molly (BA ’08), were on the floor of the exchange with about 35 other SMU Cox supporters.

The Cox school was originally established at SMU as the Department of Commerce in 1920. This visit marks the first time the Cox School has traveled to the NYSE to ring The Closing Bell. The school participated from campus in a long distance bell ringing in 2011.
