Payara Services to Embed Secure, Stable Open Source Java Runtime from Azul Systems

Payara Server 2018 Update Includes Azul Zulu Enterprise Builds of OpenJDK

London, UK and Sunnyvale, Calif. USA, Jan. 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Azul Systems (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, today announced that Payara Services Ltd (Payara) has begun shipping Azul’s Zulu Enterprise builds of OpenJDK with its Payara Server as a part of its support services offering.

Payara Server is a fully-supported open source application server derived from GlassFish, an open source application server designed for systems based on Java EE. Payara Server is free to download and use, with 24 x 7 x 365 support available by subscription from Payara. Payara customers range from BMW AG to Rakuten, iTAC Software and many other global enterprises.

Zulu Enterprise builds of OpenJDK are 100% open source, free to download and use without restrictions, and certified compatible and compliant with the Java SE standard.  Zulu Enterprise support subscriptions provide Java-based enterprises with timely security updates and bug fixes as well as out-of-band fixes for problems that have not yet been addressed by the OpenJDK community. Zulu users benefit from stable, secure builds of OpenJDK without proprietary licensing hassles or other field of use restrictions.

“By partnering with Azul Systems we are able to deliver a fully-supported open source platform for production MicroProfile and Java EE applications with Payara’s support backed by Azul’s award-winning support organization”, said Steve Millidge, Payara Founder & Technical Director. “As a company committed to open source Java-based technology, we found it easy to seamlessly incorporate Azul’s Zulu Enterprise builds of OpenJDK 7, 8 and 9 with Payara Server and Payara Micro, giving our support customers a secure and stable application platform from the JVM on up.”

“We developed Zulu Enterprise to provide the Java community with a fully-supported, pure open source alternative to proprietary Java JDK/JRE distributions”, said Scott Sellers, Azul Systems president and CEO. “We are honored and delighted that Payara has chosen to incorporate Zulu into their offerings.”

Thanks to the partnership with Azul, all Payara Support customers now have access to use Zulu Enterprise – fully-supported builds of OpenJDK – with Payara Server and Payara Micro, providing the following features and benefits:

  • Support for major Java SE releases for at least 10 years, providing more stability and control for the business;
  • Support and security updates for Java 7,8, 9 and beyond;
  • Access to fully certified and fully supported Zulu binaries;
  • Critical Patch updates for all supported Zulu versions;
  • Ability to raise support tickets for any Zulu Enterprise issues.
