Smith-Midland Wins $9 Million J-J Hooks Safety Barrier Contract for I-66 Express Lanes Project


MIDLAND, VA , Jan. 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Smith-Midland Corporation (OTCQX: SMID) project announcement. FAM Construction, LLC (a Ferrovial Agroman US and Allan Myers partnership) has awarded Smith-Midland the contract to supply up to 245,000 LF of J-J Hooks precast concrete safety barrier for the I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes project in Northern Virginia.

The 22.5 mile long I-66 project will provide two express lanes alongside three regular lanes from I-495 to Route 29 in Gainesville and space in the median reserved for future transit options. In addition, the project consists of 4,000 park-n-ride spaces, safety and operational improvements at key interchanges, and bicycle and pedestrian upgrades.

Smith-Midland will deliver the first 40,000 LF of barrier in the first quarter of 2018. Each night the crew from Smith-Midland will install over ½ mile of barrier. Final delivery of the order is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2018.

About J-J Hooks - Easi-Set Worldwide licensed product, J-J Hooks freestanding barrier, along with J-J Hooks restrained barrier (bolt-down or pin-down), are fully compliant with MASH (Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware) Test Level 3 requirements.

Their availability in the marketplace is two years ahead of the “sunset” date requirements contained in the January 7, 2016 AASHTO/FHWA Joint Implementation Agreement for MASH. The new MASH freestanding design will eventually replace the extremely successful NCHRP 350 TL3 design originally tested in 1999. Currently, more than 13,000,000 linear feet of J-J Hooks temporary barrier have been produced and installed worldwide.
