NEW YORK, Jan. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Last night, George Stamas, Partner at Kirkland & Ellis and Youth INC National Advisory Board member, welcomed over 150 guests to K&E for Youth INC’s Annual Town Hall for youth-championing organizations in New York City, featuring keynote speaker Noel Anderson, Clinical Professor & Director of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Program at NYU’s Steinhardt School. Dr. Anderson spoke about the importance of building the capacity of nonprofits and shared his own experiences leading organizational change as inspiration to Youth INC’s network of 72 grassroots nonprofit partners that collectively champion over 150,000 NYC kids. In keeping with the night’s theme, “Culture Revolution,” he implored audience members, “Address what makes you uncomfortable - transformation happens in uncomfortable places.”
Rehana Farrell, Executive Director of Youth INC, announced that Lauren Elicks McCort will assume the role of Director of Programs and Rick Schifter will assume the role of Co-Chair of the National Advisory Board. Rick Schifter, Senior Advisor at TPG and Youth INC Board Co-Chair since 2011, noted, “We have invested considerable time, energy, and resources into becoming a recognized leader in Social and Emotional Learning and Lauren has lead that charge for us. We are all excited about her appointment as Head of Programs, grateful for her dedication to our work serving grassroots nonprofits, and optimistic about her future impact on our organization.” “These moves come at an important inflection point for our organization,” said John Waldron, Co-Head of Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs and Youth INC Board Co-Chair since 2015. “Our National Advisory Board is larger and stronger than ever, and Rick will galvanize this important group of philanthropists even further.”
Dhan Pai, President and COO at P. Schoenfeld Asset Management and Board Co-Chair elect, added, “We are thrilled that 3 Youth INC nonprofit partners have received national recognition in Social and Emotional Learning by receiving the Inaugural Superstar Award from Algorhythm for their exceptional practices and youth outcomes.” The winners were: 1st place, Calvin Stalvig, Beam Center; 2nd place, Lizzy Rainer, Artists Striving to End Poverty; 3rd place, Mary Lee Dinski, Fiver Children’s Foundation. Farrell explained that these three standout organizations are not only leaders in using data and best practices to inform their work, but also emblematic of how hard nonprofit leaders work to help young people achieve their full potential.
Farrell thanked News Corp for their continued philanthropic investment in Youth INC that empowers youth-championing organizations to leverage data and best practices to inform and evolve their programs. “If all corporate – and individual – philanthropists adopted this kind of learning orientation and funded groups to better understand and improve their impact, the entire social impact sector would benefit.” Copies of the Best Practices Guide that News Corp funded are available on the Youth INC website. Farrell also thanked all of the youth organizations that participated in the event, which offered powerful artistic expression and demonstrated the potential of the next generation: America Scores, Community-Word Project, Opening Act, and viBe Theater Experience.
About Youth INC
Youth INC’s mission is to transform the lives of NYC youth by empowering the organizations that serve them. While there are over 1,500 organizations helping children in New York, it’s hard to identify the best and expand their reach. That’s where Youth INC comes in. Youth INC uses a rigorous screening process to identify the most promising youth-serving nonprofits. Then, we partner to help nonprofits develop robust fundraising capabilities, build a strong board of directors, issue grants that accelerate growth and drive sustainable scale, and establish metrics to improve programs and demonstrate impact. After partnering with Youth INC, nonprofits experience an average revenue increase of more than 197% and serve 129% more youth. This unique venture philanthropy model has helped Youth INC raise over $80 million for over 150 partner organizations since 1995, enabling them to improve the lives of NYC youth each year.
