Dallas, Texas, March 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Dallas Mavericks and Dallas-based 5miles have teamed up for a new co-branded and community partnership, which includes a jersey patch and multiple in-game activations as part of a three-year deal. 5miles is a free local marketplace app/website that lets users buy and sell not only secondhand items but also find local services, housing and jobs—all within their community.
Mavs forward Harrison Barnes will serve as brand ambassador to 5miles, assisting with all joint community initiatives focusing on youth education, underserved communities, supporting local police, and more.
“The Mavs offer a great way to connect fans and users through our free, easy and convenient app, while strengthening 5miles’ brand awareness and market share in Dallas and beyond,” Dr. Lucas Lu, 5miles’ founder and CEO, said. “As tech entrepreneurs ourselves, this also is an opportunity to affiliate with the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Mark Cuban built his success in the tech industry, and his business-savvy and the journey that got him to where he is today is something we admire as it parallels our own.”
Among the initiatives, the Mavs and 5miles will collaborate on a community program called Entrepreneurial Expedition: a program to guide students through their personal journey to become an entrepreneur. The Mavs launched the program in 2017 to help reach hundreds of middle school students throughout DFW. 5miles will work with Mark Cuban and the Mavs to expand the program in up to 30 schools across North Texas over the next three years.
Additionally, the 5miles partnership includes exclusive promotions for Season Ticket Holders and MFFLs within the 5miles app, as well as in-game marketing activations and promotional signage throughout the American Airlines Center. Even more noteworthy, 5miles will provide an opportunity for Mavs fans to purchase tickets through cryptocurrency. With the culmination of this partnership, the Dallas Mavericks will be one of the first teams in the NBA to accept various forms of cryptocurrency for tickets and merchandise beginning in the 2018-19 season.
“We’re lucky to partner with a locally-based company that is innovative and growing exponentially,” Mavs owner Mark Cuban said. “We’re excited, too, that the Mavs brand now can accept payment for single and season tickets with 5miles’ blockchain technology-based CyberMiles Tokens (CMT).”
Also as a part of the partnership, 5miles will become the official sponsor of the Mavs' beloved Special Edition T-Shirt Tuesdays, where everyone in attendance at American Airlines Center receives a free Mavs t-shirt on Tuesday night games.
Nike became the NBA’s official uniform supplier this season, providing all uniform and apparel for the Mavs. The orange 5miles logo will be displayed on the left front shoulder strap of official Dallas Mavericks jerseys on court and on authentic jerseys in the Mavs Hangar. Jersey sponsorships were approved by the NBA as part of a three-year pilot program in April 2016.
