Sunnova Rolls Out SunSafe™ Solar + Battery Storage Technology Service for New and Existing Customers in Puerto Rico

In the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Sunnova SunSafe™ offers Puerto Rican homeowners reliable power day and night through solar + battery storage technology

San Juan, Puerto Rico, March 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sunnova Energy Corporation, the largest provider of distributed residential solar service in Puerto Rico, announced today it has continued to expand its Sunnova SunSafe™ solar + battery storage service offering, through its network of local partners, to homeowners across the island. Sunnova is the first—and only—residential solar service provider to offer solar + battery storage technology services on the island. In addition, Sunnova is the only residential solar service provider to offer a 25-year solar + battery storage contract with a comprehensive warranty and performance guarantee to ensure long-term peace of mind for homeowners.

“Since Hurricanes Irma and Maria whipped across Puerto Rico, we have been working tirelessly with battery storage manufacturers around the world to create a pipeline to an easily accessible and sustainable residential solar + battery storage offering for Puerto Rico,” said William J. (John) Berger, CEO of Sunnova Energy Corporation. “Our battery pipeline is in effect; our partners are ready, trained and installing and we are thrilled to be offering Sunnova SunSafe™ to both existing and new customers.”

Puerto Rico’s Sunnova SunSafe™ offering is a customized solar + battery storage technology system designed to replace much of the energy homeowners normally consume from the electrical grid, day and night. Sunnova SunSafe™ maximizes the use of the energy produced by the solar system, significantly reducing consumer dependence upon the electrical network and in some cases eliminating it all together. Unlike solar-only power systems that do not have a battery, Sunnova SunSafe™ will continue to produce and store energy when the power grid is down or idle, giving homeowners reliable power.

“In Puerto Rico, we see homeowners looking for more resilient power in the face of future storms or power outages. By offering Sunnova SunSafe™, homeowners are given that peace of mind knowing that they’ll have reliable energy, day and night,” said Juan Jose Gonzalez, Vice President of Windmar Renewable Energy a clean energy developer in Puerto Rico and a Sunnova installation partner.

Berger added: “It’s clear that the energy industry is experiencing change on a profound level and at a blistering pace. Puerto Rico cannot go back to the energy infrastructure status quo that existed before the hurricanes, and Sunnova SunSafe™ allows homeowners to forge that new path forward.”

Existing customers on the island, who wish to add battery storage to their existing Sunnova service contract, will be offered an add-on retrofit Sunnova SunSafe™ battery storage technology service in the form of a 10-year loan financing option. New Sunnova customers will be offered a 25-year Sunnova SunSafe™ lease or loan financing option covering both their solar and storage systems.

In addition to Puerto Rico, Sunnova also offers Sunnova SunSafe™ in Hawaii and California.
