Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) announced the results of the election of its board of directors. After a 20-year history of single slate approval, this was the first contested election put before members.
According to HECA’s incoming president, Brooke Daly of Advantage College Planning in Raleigh, NC, "We were so lucky to have such a talented slate for HECA’s first contested election. Not only was each candidate more than qualified to do the job, they all have an infectious passion for HECA and the work they do with students and parents.”
The following elected board leadership will begin their new positions on June 13, 2018, following HECA’s annual meeting which will be held at their annual conference. (HECA’s 2018 conference will take place at the Renaissance Dallas Addison from June 11 to June 15.)
President-Elect: Cheri Barad of Barad Education Consulting, Wellesley, MA
Ms. Barad is a member and has served on the boards of various selective professional organizations. She most recently served as HECA’s Membership Chair. She is also a member of National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), New England Association of College Admissions Counselors (NEACAC) and Great Plains Association of College Admissions Counselors (GPACAC).
Communications Chair: Chris Holzwarth of Beyond the Applause, Alpharetta, GA
Ms. Holzwarth has served as a conference volunteer and presenter for HECA, as well as the co-chair for the 2015 annual conference in Cincinnati. She is also a member of several other professional organizations including National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), National College Advocacy Group (NCAG) and Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC).
Membership Chair: Maureen Chang of Alma Mater, Danville, CA
Ms. Chang has served on several HECA committees and was co-chair for the 2013 annual conference in Nashville. She is also a member of several other professional organizations including National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), Independent Education Consultants Association (IECA), NAFSA: Association for International Educators, International Association for College Admission Counseling and Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC).
Professional Development Chair: Barbara Rapaport of Rapaport Consulting, Princeton Junction, NJ
Ms. Rapaport has served on HECA’s board and as co-chair for the 2016 annual conference in Philadelphia. She is also affiliated with several other professional organizations including National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), New Jersey Association for College Admission Counseling (NJACAC), Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC), New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC), Princeton Learning Cooperative, NJ Homeschool Association and College Summit.
