Dominican Republic Announces New Tourist Entry Process

Dominican Republic improves tourist entry process across all eight airports

SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, May 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- International tourists arriving by air to Dominican Republic will no longer be required to pay the US $10 tourist entry fee upon arrival. Effective April 25, all airfare purchases will include the tourist card fee.

This announcement from The Dominican Tax Authorities (DGII), is set to increase ease of entry for those traveling by air – allowing tourists to maximize vacation time by shortening the time spent in airport customs. The new process will eliminate the previous system where visitors processed payment upon arrival in Dominican Republic international customs. As of now, the feature is only available upon purchase of airline ticket and excludes air tickets with point of sale in Dominican Republic. Tourists entering via cruise port will continue to follow the existing entry requirements.

Most visitors arriving by air to the Dominican Republic, including those from the US, Canada, Great Britain, the European Union, Mexico, and many South American countries only need a valid passport and the bundled tourist card to enter the country. Those obtaining citizenship from elsewhere will need to apply for a tourist visa. Please reference the DGII for a complete list of citizens who need to request a tourist visa.  http://www.dgii.gov.do/tarjetaTuristica/EN/about/Documents/CountriesneedingaVisatoentertheDominicanRepublic.pdf

“From the minute travelers arrive, we are dedicated to providing an exceptional experience in Dominican Republic,” said Magaly Toribio, Marketing Advisor for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. “This announcement supports our promise to offer an unmatched vacation.”

In the first quarter of 2018, a majority of the air arrivals came from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) welcoming a remarkable 1,081,857 international tourists, and Santo Domingo’s Las Americas Airport (SDQ) with 221,775 passengers.

With eight international airports and nine distinct ecological zones, it has never been more accessible or appealing to explore Dominican Republic, most notably with the recent tourist fee.

Known for off the beaten path excursions, endless amenities and year-round perfect climate, Dominican Republic is a destination like no other. Whether one is a seeking a sophisticated luxury retreat, a cultural extravaganza in Santo Domingo, the Colonial City or local fare along the coast – Dominican Republic is the ideal destination for any vacation.
