Sierra Monitor Collaborated With Siemens to Create New FieldServer Software that Supports Life Safety Equipment

Improve Elevator Recall Support with new level of Fire Panel integration from SMC

Las Vegas, June 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NFPA Conference – Fire panel manufacturers continue to embrace the regulations related to elevator recall functionality (also known as Occupant Evacuation Operation – or OEO).  But, creating a programmable and automated connection across the diverse range of elevator manufacturers worldwide can be complex, costly, and time consuming.

Sierra Monitor’s FieldServer building automation protocol gateways provide the communication translation between fire panel systems and elevator control systems.

Today, Sierra Monitor is announcing its latest release of FieldServer software which now supports an expanded range of Life Safety objects.  The new software is certified by the BACnet Testing Labs (BTL) and it supports a new edge-compute functionality designed to simplify integration and improve operation of the OEO function.

The Fire Safety Products group at Siemens Building Technologies is an existing FieldServer customer that worked with Sierra Monitor to create this enhanced functionality.  “The new FieldServer software provides Siemens Fire Panels with more flexibility and a wider range of capabilities for interworking with elevator manufacturers to support OEO,” said Mark Pavlica, Director of Product Marketing for fire safety products at Siemens Building Technologies Division.

The FieldServer family of protocol gateways are the proven, trusted solution for life safety and building automation systems.  The FieldServer product supports over 140 different industrial automation protocols and has successfully integrated with hundreds of equipment manufactures and thousands of specific models, including dozens of fire panels and elevator control systems.

“FieldServer is a simple yet powerful protocol gateway.  For equipment manufacturers like Siemens, FieldServer removes the complexity of integrating with elevator control systems and building management systems.  For systems integrators, FieldServer is the contractor’s best friend and is easily configurable in the field to interwork between just about any new or existing system in a facility,” said Steve Shaw, Vice President of Marketing for Sierra Monitor Corporation.

The FieldServer family of products are designed to support three core functions:

  • Protocol translation from proprietary data sets in facilities or industrial equipment, for example vendor-specific Modbus data points to BACnet objects.
  • Interface OEM equipment into existing building automation networks (BAN) and building management systems (BMS).
  • Enable remote equipment monitoring, troubleshooting, and notifications for OEMs to improve customer service and lower support costs via the SMC Cloud.
