TÜV SÜD Canada Approved as CBSD Test Lab

Gormley, ONT, June 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TÜV SÜD Canada, a global testing and certification services organization, is pleased to announce the acceptance into the WInnForum Approved Citizens Broadband Radio Service Device (CBSD) Certification Program. This recognition will allow TUV SUD to certify products operating in the Citizens Broadband Radio Services (CBRS) band.

Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) uses 150 MHz of bandwidth in the 3.5 GHz band (3550MHz to 3700MHz) which was historically used by the U.S. government for DoD radar systems. The FCC established rules in 2017 for the commercial use of this band. The overarching goal of the expansion of this spectrum was to promote more efficient use and introduce small cells.

Equipment manufacturers will need to verify that their CBSD can communicate with a Spectrum Access System and that those devices comply with FCC Part 96. Companies that are developing products using the CBRS band will not be required to purchase spectrum licenses. This will make it faster and easier for wireless carriers to deploy 5G. Since these frequencies will be using shared airwaves, it is required that CBRS users make sure not to interfere with others already using nearby airwave bands. As an approved CBSD test lab, TÜV SÜD can conduct RF and performance testing to ensure your products will comply.

“Manufacturers of CBSD can obtain FCC Part 96 certification through TÜV SÜD allowing for fast deployment of 5G public network hotspots or ultra-robust private networks in factories,” said Scott Drysdale, Wireless Manager of TÜV SÜD Canada.
