Two of the most common devices in the classroom are iPads and Chromebooks, with 33% of Safeware-insured schools having iPads and 33% having Chromebooks. On average, Chromebooks cost around $300. Apple’s newest iPad has a $329 price tag by comparison. However, this does not account for the iPad’s stylus and keyboard components, which can add $150.
Some of the most important features to consider when purchasing classroom technology is the device’s performance and battery life. Apple’s new iPad features a next-generation Apple A10 Fusion processor, while typical Chromebook models use older processors, making them a bit slower. Chromebooks average around 10 hours of battery life, which is what the newest iPad also features.
Safeware’s data showcases that almost 18% of insured Chromebooks experienced a claim within the past 12 months, compared to nearly 11% of iPads. Almost 90% of claims received on both types of devices were due to accidental drops and fall, which are common in a classroom setting. Additionally, Safeware data also shows that iPads are more likely to be stolen than their Chromebook counterparts.
