WALTHAM, Mass., July 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TESARO, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSRO), an oncology-focused biopharmaceutical company, is proud to announce a new partnership supporting the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). The PMC is the nation’s most successful athletic fundraising event, raising money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through a yearly bike-a-thon that crosses the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The 39th PMC will take place on August 4-5 with routes of varying distance.
“We’re happy to welcome TESARO to the PMC family as we approach this year’s ride,” said Billy Starr, PMC founder and executive director. “Commitment to the fight against cancer is at the core of our organization, and we are grateful that TESARO shares that mindset and for their support as we pursue a record-setting $52 million fundraising goal this year.”
“We are excited to partner with the Pan-Mass Challenge for this historic event benefiting the great work being done at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,” said Lonnie Moulder, CEO of TESARO. “We look forward to building this relationship with PMC to continue advancing our collective mission of improving the lives of people facing cancer.”
This August, more than 6,200 cyclists and 4,000 volunteers will participate in the two-day bike-a-thon with the goal of raising $52 million for Dana-Farber. If achieved, this fundraising goal will bring the organization’s cumulative contribution to more than $650 million since its inception in 1980. One hundred percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the cause, and the PMC is Dana-Farber’s largest single contributor of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue.

About the Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The 39th PMC will take place on August 4 and 5, 2018. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Bill Star, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $598 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. The PMC generates more than 53% of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and is the Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC’s goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber’s doctors and researches with the necessary resources to discover cures for cancer.
