Privacy vs Data: VPN.com Challenges Google Co-founders to $500,000 Hockey Game

ATLANTA and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 03, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Michael Gargiulo, CEO at VPN.com is announcing a $500,000 roller hockey game against Google co-founders Sergey Brin, Larry Page and the best squad of six players Google has to offer. The game will take place at a time when privacy and data collection are sweeping across world headlines.

The Google co-founders have played roller hockey in the San Francisco Bay Area for decades. Many employees recall regular full contact games in the parking lot, where Google executives and some of their best employees would walk away “bruised and bloody” at Googleplex in Mountain View, California.

“I have played hockey my entire life and it would be an honor to represent privacy as we square off and hustle against the $785 billion company. While I am huge advocate for privacy, I have admired Google’s products and services for as long as I can remember. I have built many successful businesses with the help of Google, and to be able to compete with these gentlemen would be an exhilarating opportunity,” Gargiulo said.

The hockey game would consist of three 15-minute periods, three time outs per team and two referees at: SilverCreek Sportsplex in San Jose, California. The complex was founded by former San Jose Shark, David Maley, in 1996 and is now one of the largest roller hockey facilities in the country.

The game comes at a time when technology, user data and privacy are converging. The world’s largest companies, like Google, are having to respond to many new privacy laws and regulation aimed at changing how these companies protect their user’s data. Since Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica meltdown, the world of privacy has taken the world’s stage for the first time in history.

“If Google wins, VPN.com will promote Google’s Jigsaw VPN product across our entire site and privacy campaigns for one year, worth $500,000. If our team wins, Larry and Sergey will sponsor privacy and VPN.com, one of the most recognized brands in cybersecurity, for $500,000. And with these resources we can further our research and privacy campaigns across the globe.”

“Either way, the winner will donate $250,000 to Stanford’s Cancer Center to help families fighting for a loved one, like most us do at some point in our lives,” Gargiulo adds.

Once details are confirmed, a schedule of the game and coverage will be released. Given the nature of the event, it is likely the game will attract a crowd well into the thousands who want to watch VPN.com and Google square off.

“I look forward to hearing from them,” Gargiulo adds. “We have a squad of six talented hockey players. I hope Google can pull together a team that can keep up.”
