HOUSTON, July 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spine Injury Solutions, Inc. (OTCQB:SPIN), a technology-driven, medical service, financing and healthcare solution company announces after three months of research and testing, two existing SPIN Affiliate Centers have been equipped with state-of-the-art concussion testing hardware/software to test for concussions. All new affiliates will have this feature included and the Company is investigating the possibility to add a new “entry level” affiliate initially only doing concussion testing.
Concussion testing done by SPIN Affiliates is not a simple two to ten minute test given a athlete on the sidelines. It is undertaken locally by a trained technician and tests among other, central and vestibular nervous system, balance and coordination along with memory, executive function, reaction time focus and attention. The full test battery takes about an hour. The results of the tests are compiled locally and diagnosed, usually off-site, by a neurologist with specialized training.
Dr. Donovan stated; “Our affiliated doctors have noticed a sizeable increase in concussion and traumatic brain injuries associated with neck injuries. Approximately three years ago, TBI which has been around forever, became a ‘front-burner’ injury problem in the NFL. While boxing has known of the correlation between the ‘whiplash effect’ of a punch causing the brain to smash back and forth into the skull walls causing various levels of TBI, it had been pretty much ignored as a long term problem until NFL players began aging with irreversible brain damage. This damage should have been diagnosed and protected against early in their career.” Donovan went on to say; “In simplest terms, historically concussions were looked at as individual trauma like a bruise where the victim was told ,” rest for a few days and it will heal’. Studies now show even relatively minor concussions if not individually diagnosed and treated can have unknown long lasting effects.
SPIN’s advantage in doing this testing in an affiliate center is intuitive in that both neck and head injuries are likely outcomes from the same accident so will be handled by the same doctor. With SPIN’s QVH video archiving capabilities, the concussion procedure, while not using the fluoroscopic collar cameras, can be separately video recorded with equipment plugged into the QVH video input and sent to that specific individual case cloud storage file along with its QVH injection diagnostic video. “The CDC states in a 2017 report that TBI costs in 2010, years before TBI became a front burner item, exceeded $76 billion. This number is likely double now.
