FORE! Hundreds of Veterans TEE Up in Iowa this week

Riverside, Iowa, Sept. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- More than 200 Veterans with visual impairments, severe illness or injury are TEEing up at the 2018 National Disabled Veterans Training, Exposure and Experience Tournament, September 9-14 around Iowa City, Iowa.The five-day event is co-hosted by DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and is supported by businesses, nonprofit organizations and individual donors.

“The fact that this important event has been around for a quarter century says a lot about its positive impact on many disabled Veterans each year,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “It’s a great event, and VA is proud to partner with DAV and many other corporate and individual donors to make it happen once again for our nation’s heroes.”

“When I lost my limbs in service, I was devastated and thought about all the things I couldn’t do. Through this event, I’m able to golf and do things I never thought were possible,” said Dave Riley, the clinic chairman.

In addition to golfing at several courses in the Iowa City area, veterans will participate in adaptive cycling, fishing, bowling, kayaking, scuba diving, disc golf, marksmanship and rock wall climbing.

Nearly 250 veterans from around the country are participating in the TEE Tournament’s 25th Anniversary event hosted by the Iowa City VA Health Care System. More than 400 volunteers are expected to donate their time and efforts to the event.
