Culpeper, VA, Sept. 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A delegation of social workers from Hangzhou City, China, recently visited the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) at its headquarters in Culpeper, Virginia, to learn about social work regulation, supervision, and practice in the United States. Twenty people, including a translator and the deputy director general of the Hangzhou Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, comprised the Chinese business delegation.
The Chinese visitors incorporated Culpeper into a trip planned to exchange information about the profession of social work and to meet with American social work organizations. ASWB was contacted about meeting with the delegation by Triway International Group, an organization certified by the China State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs to host government and business delegations from China that come to the United States for study purposes. The delegation traveled from Washington, D.C., by bus and stayed for a pizza lunch at ASWB headquarters.
Mr. Huamin Cheng, deputy director general of the Hangzhou Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, China, led the delegation and was accompanied by Ms. Yue Zhao, chairman of the Social Worker Association of Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, and other community deputy directors, directors, and social workers from Hangzhou City. At the Culpeper office, the delegation met with ASWB Chief Executive Officer Mary Jo Monahan and Chief Operating Officer Dwight Hymans.

We learned much from this exchange of knowledge about social work on the international stage.”
ASWB regularly represents North American social work regulatory interests at international conferences. In July, Monahan and ASWB Board President Timothy Martel Brown attended the 2018 Joint World Conference on Social Work Education and Social Development in Dublin, Ireland, where Monahan presented on the topic of social work practice mobility and license portability.
