Scottsdale, Arizona (USA), Oct. 01, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Planet Water Foundation, a leading non-profit organization that addresses global water poverty by providing clean water access and hygiene education programs, will celebrate reaching one million people across 1,000 communities in 14 countries on October 3rd by launching Project 1000, a large-scale deployment initiative across an entire District in Cambodia.
Planet Water, along with other program partners Xylem, Inc., Watts Water Technologies, Nakula, the Ludacka family and the Treinen family, are targeting communities within the Svay Leu District of Siem Reap Province for Project 1000, where the Foundation deployed its first project in 2009. Well water resources in the District are contaminated by seasonal fluctuations in the ground water table, forcing area residents to collect untreated surface water from distant locations. Planet Water’s community-based water filtration AquaTowers and hygiene education programs will help reduce the spread of waterborne diseases and improve the overall health of community members by teaching proper water hygiene practices.
“Providing safe, clean water to one million people in less than a decade is an important achievement for our organization and we believe this momentum is elevating awareness that global water poverty affects regions where water is abundant. In these regions, proper water filtration is needed to make water safe for human consumption, and this has been a cornerstone of our mission.” said Mark Steele, Founder and CEO of Planet Water Foundation. “This milestone is dedicated to the nearly 50 organizations that have aligned with us in the Asia-Pacific Region and Latin America where our community-based water filtration systems and hygiene education are needed most.”
Planet Water Foundation is uniquely focused and positioned to deliver water filtration systems in rural communities where water often contains bacteria, protozoa, viruses and other harmful contaminants that most often affect the health and long-term vitality of children. The Foundation’s clean water access systems, along with its school and community-based hygiene education programs, are often supported by strategic partnerships with leading global organizations through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that involve volunteers who assist with project implementation. Planet Water also provides training for local communities to maintain the systems and includes five years of post-project sustainability support, water quality monitoring, and ongoing hygiene education program support for every beneficiary community.
