Winston-Salem, NC, Oct. 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Med-Turn Inc., an Inmar Company, announced that the company has been awarded an Innovative Technology contract with Vizient, Inc., the largest member-driven healthcare performance improvement company in the country. The contract was based on a recommendation of MedEx® TubeSafe® by hospital experts in this category who serve on one of Vizient's member-led councils. Innovative Technology contracts are reserved for technologies that demonstrate an ability to enhance clinical care or patient safety, and those that improve an organization's care delivery and business model.
The Med-Turn Inc. MedEx® TubeSafe® is an innovative technology solution that securely tracks medications sent through pneumatic tube systems and ensures they reach their intended location. TubeSafe hardware includes a pharmacy scanner, nurse receiving station and locks for the carriers that are compatible with major manufacturers' existing pneumatic systems and do not require retrofits or upgrades.
"It is important that pharmacy and nursing professionals know the status and location of every dispensed medication, from pharmacy to point of use," said David Mounts, Chairman and CEO of Inmar. "MedEx TubeSafe provides a total chain-of-custody of medication deliveries through pneumatic tube systems, which drastically reduces the number of inquiry phone calls into pharmacies. In turn, the number of missing medication investigations and wasted medication inventory decreases, alleviating issues that drain the productivity of pharmacy and nursing departments."
Vizient members will receive the following TubeSafe benefits:
- Reduction of missing doses that cause interruptions and waste
- Confirmed receipt of medications by nursing and generated compliance documentation
- Ease of use for nursing department and improved workflow
- Patent-pending security mechanisms
"MedEx provides real-time status of all medications delivered and is the only system on the market able to manage the broad medication distribution process," said Mounts. "We are thrilled to work with Vizient to provide their members with access to contracts that offer increased savings for our innovative pharmacy logistics management platform that provides visibility to when the medication was prepared, when it left the pharmacy, who received it and where it is stored."
"Hospitals and providers are continuously looking for innovative solutions that offer a unique benefit over other products in the market today," said Debbie Archer, director of procurement and leader of the Vizient Innovative Technology program for suppliers. "After a full review of our MedEx® TubeSafe product, our member council agreed this solution offers an incremental benefit over other products and recommended it for an innovative technology contract."
