Student Hackers from Northeastern University Take the First Cybersecurity Beanpot Trophy
WILMINGTON, Mass., Nov. 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Security Innovation, a pioneer in software security, hosted the first Cybersecurity Beanpot event on October 30, 2018 at Suffolk University in Boston, MA. Security Innovation partnered with Suffolk University to create this exciting event, designed to promote interest in cybersecurity skills and encourage the expansion of educational opportunities to meet growing workforce demands.
More than 90 students from Suffolk University, Boston College, Northeastern University, and UMass Lowell tested their skills in a fun and educational live hacking contest using Security Innovation’s cyber range product, CMD+CTRL, the only Web Application cyber range dedicated for development and security teams.
“The first Cybersecurity Beanpot was a roaring success, and we’re thrilled to see how many students competed to test their attack skills. Congratulations to all the winners,” said Ed Adams, president and CEO of Security Innovation. “The demand for cybersecurity solutions is expanding at a rapid rate, and there is not enough talent out there right now to meet that demand. Security Innovation is excited to continue working with universities to build excitement for cybersecurity education for today’s talented students.”
The Cybersecurity Beanpot pitted student teams against each other as they raced to find vulnerabilities within the authentic, immersive Shadow Bank cyber range environment. Students from Northeastern, Boston College, UMass Lowell, and Suffolk University released their inner hackers to win individual prizes.
Northeastern University won first place at both the individual and university level, and the university will host the Cybersecurity Beanpot trophy on its campus until a new winner is crowned at the next event in Spring 2019.
