Green Street Power Partners celebrates the completion of a 4.8 MW community solar project in Westfield, Massachusetts

The community solar program provided through this project will accept up to 250 local Westfield applicants

Stamford, CT, Nov. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Hampden County, Green Street Power Partners, LLC (GSPP), a national developer and financier of commercial and community solar projects, celebrated the completion of a 4.8 MW community solar project located in Westfield, MA. Ceremony attendees included Mayor of Westfield, Brian P. Sullivan, Westfield Gas + Electric, developing partner Terawatt Energy, turnkey Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) company Swinerton Renewable Energy (SRE), as well as other local officials and representatives.

“Green Street Power Partners’ solar project is a great development for the citizens of Westfield and we welcome them.  Not only can the members of our community take part in clean energy, it is a project on the North side of town that will bring needed tax revenues as well as be cognizant of the surrounding area in regards to traffic and the Barnes Aquifer,” commented Mayor Brian P. Sullivan.

“Westfield Gas and Electric is excited to be a part of the team that moved this project from concept to completion, such as we’ve done with the three other large-scale solar arrays that exist in Westfield,” added Tony Contrino, General Manager at Westfield Gas + Electric. “This facility will benefit our community with the generation of clean power and by providing low-cost energy to our ratepayers for many years to come.”

"We are thrilled to be developing local community solar projects like these with municipal power grids like Westfield Gas and Electric, and we appreciate the City of Westfield's cooperation and hard work to make this project happen,” said Craig Dwyer, CEO at Terawatt Energy.

“We are very excited to bring this unique GSPP brand of community solar program to Westfield,” commented Lisa Raffin, Chief Investment Officer at GSPP. “Community solar projects have exceptional and far-reaching benefits, but we needed a new paradigm to serve the City of Westfield. Working closely with MA Department of Energy Resources, we were able to structure a creative community solar program that will bring economic and social benefit to the community for 20 years.”

The solar system is comprised of 13,728 panels situated on privately owned land in Westfield with the energy generated sold to Westfield Gas + Electric through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement. The community solar program, operated solely by GSPP, will run for 9 years and will accommodate up to 250 Westfield residents. GSPP is accepting applications through December.

This is one of 7 community solar projects GSPP is deploying over the next couple months. To find out more about GSPP’s community solar programs, visit gspp.com/community-solar.
