OAKLAND, Calif., March 05, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DASAN Zhone Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: DZSI), a global leader in fiber access transformation for enterprise and service provider networks, announced that its Korean business unit DASAN Network Solutions has been selected by the South Korean Ministry of Education to provide SDN-based wired and wireless infrastructure and network management. This School-Net project has entered its pilot phase, connecting 22 elementary, middle and high schools around the nation. The goal of the School-Net project over 3 years is to modernize more than 11,000 school networks across the country to enable DZS’s latest technologies in digital learning and smart school operations.
New network demands for video and IoT in smart schools required a full network modernization. In designing the solution for this modernization project, there was an opportunity to also consolidate management and improve productivity with SDN. Supported by central control center, each of the 16 Education Offices nationwide will maintain, upgrade, and support the network for its group of several hundred schools. This optimizes the classroom experience and frees teachers to focus on students. SDN provides automated state of the art school networking and technology services for Education, so problems can be fixed or new connectivity can added in a matter of minutes versus days.
“Our team is proud to have been selected as the supplier in this large-scale project that will benefit the young people of South Korea and empower advancement,” said Dr. Steve Lee, Head of APAC Business Unit, DZS. “With positive references from Universities and School Systems worldwide, DZS will continue to engage Education organizations to utilize modernized Fiber technologies, from POL with our new FiberLANTM offering, to Fiber to the Premises with 10Gig and Enterprise Switches.”
Many school campuses in South Korea are comprised of one or more multi-story buildings. Given the diversity of the locations and student populations across the country, having the freedom to choose the best network solution for the specific characteristics of an individual school is important. Many school campus networks will benefit from more efficient use of SDN-based switches and access points; for others, PON-based networks will consist of DZS’s efficient SDN-enabled OLT and ONTs.
DZS solutions are SDN-enabled, and can be centrally managed to more reliably deliver outstanding levels of service in both Primary and Higher Education environments. New learning in smart schools is only possible if every student has a problem-free connection to digital curriculum, made more efficient by centralized management and SDN capabilities. This powerful new network infrastructure will also serve new workloads over time, as security, monitoring, and other smart building services are added to transform the digital learning experience for students.
