RESTON, Va., March 07, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The FAIR Institute, an expert, nonprofit organization led by information risk officers, CISOs and business executives to develop standard information, cyber security and operational risk management practices, has been honored by SC Media as one of the “Most Important Industry Organizations of the Last 30 Years” in the prestigious SC Media 30th Anniversary Awards.
As part of SC Media’s year-long celebration for their 30th anniversary in the cybersecurity industry, they expanded their annual SC Awards to include several special categories honoring those who have shaped the industry. Winners were decided by SC Media’s editorial team with the assistance of the SC Awards co-chairs.
“Over the last three decades, the winners of our 30th Anniversary Awards have left an indelible imprint on the cybersecurity industry through their tireless work and visionary leadership,” said Illena Armstrong, VP, editorial, SC Media. “The FAIR Institute has most assuredly earned this honor for its continued dedication to protecting enterprises from today’s sophisticated threats.”
“We are grateful to SC Media for this recognition of the efforts of the FAIR Institute and its membership to fundamentally change how the industry is defining, thinking of and managing risk,” said Nicola (Nick) Sanna, president and secretary, FAIR Institute.
In just three years of existence, the FAIR Institute has already attracted more than 4,000 members to become one of the most representative organizations in the cybersecurity and operational risk management field. Institute members come from 87 different countries and 20% of the member base is comprised of senior leadership in security and risk, including CISOs, Vice Presidents, Heads of Security, and C-Suite Executives from the largest companies in the world, and nearly 30% of the Fortune 1000 companies.
Institute members are practitioners of Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR), the revolutionary method for translating cybersecurity risk into the financial terms commonly used in business. A recent Wall Street Journal WSJ Pro Cybersecurity Newsletter noted that FAIR is "gaining traction" among sophisticated risk management operations at major companies.
“The FAIR Institute is still a young organization and this recognition from the SC Awards encourages us in our work to spread the message that, with FAIR, cyber risk management can be conducted on the same solid, financial basis that’s broadly accepted in enterprise risk management,” Sanna said.
