Lightwave Logic Wins Award for Breakthrough Technology

ENGLEWOOD, CO, March 26, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lightwave Logic, Inc. (OTCQB: LWLG) today was awarded “Best Achievement in PIC Platform” at the 3rd PIC Awards. This award recognizes advances in the development and application of key materials systems driving today’s photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and providing a stepping stone to future devices. Lightwave Logic was chosen for its achievement with its 100 GHz polymer platform which targets the insatiable demand for fast data communications in the multi-billion-dollar telecom and data markets supporting media streaming, AI (artificial intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things).

Unlike most polymers used in passive photonics today, Lightwave Logic’s Faster by Design™ technology is a very high-speed active integrated optics platform using the company’s own high-performance Perkinamine™ polymer materials. This platform has similar capabilities to semiconductor platforms but capable of extension to higher speeds and lower electrical power consumption.

The PIC International Conference created the PIC Awards to put the spotlight on innovation. The awards recognize and highlight key industry achievements in advancing photonic integration through platform development, manufacturing, design, packaging and device characterization.

“The awards program is dedicated to celebrating leading lights in the industry. Nominations and voting having taken place online over the past few months We are thrilled to have announced the winners at the PIC International 2019 conference and networking dinner on March 26th in Brussels. It is testament to the fantastic work Lightwave Logic is doing in the polymer PICs field and helping to advance applications beyond 100G that so many in the industry have voted for them to be the winners in the ‘Best achievement in PIC platform’ category”, said Sukhi Bhadal, event director of PIC International Conference and PIC Awards.

The award was presented by Dr. Jose Pozo, Director of Technology and Innovation at the European Photonics Industry Consortium, who said, “This year the PIC Awards program had over 80 nominations to choose from, and received over 9,000 votes. I am personally amazed by the huge potential and fast developments of Lightwave Logic. The future is extremely bright for a company which has managed to develop a 100GHz polymer-based PIC platform, enabling potentially great functionalities, for example electro-optic modulators to address 100 Gbps and 400 Gbps for fiber optic communications applications.”

Dr. Lebby, CEO of Lightwave Logic accepted the award at the ceremony in Brussels today. He noted, “I am truly proud and privileged to be able to accept an internationally recognized award for our plastic polymer technology platform on behalf of all of Lightwave Logic.  The team has worked very hard in developing innovative, high performance, power-efficient materials and devices for the internet, and this award is a testament to the quality of their work.”
