NASHUA, N.H., April 29, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2019 Self-Service Business Intelligence Market Study, part of its Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The 8th annual report examines end user deployment and trends around self-service business intelligence (BI), which builds upon collaborative business intelligence and user governance to create an environment where users can easily create and share insights in a managed and consistent fashion.
“The Self-Service Business Intelligence Market Study represents the latest evolution of our research in this area, which began in 2012 as an examination of collaborative BI trends,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “Since that time we have expanded the scope to include important related topics such as data storytelling and governance to provide a rich multi-year portrait of important shifts in the market.”
According to the 2019 report, the umbrella topic of self-service is a top-five BI initiative among users, while collaborative support technologies is ranked 14th of 37 topics under study. Collaborative BI continues an uptrend of criticality over time, with an all-time high of 72 percent of respondents indicating that collaborative BI is either “critical” or “very important” in 2019.
In-person meetings, email, and formal presentations are the most popular collaboration channels. Successful BI organizations rely on multiple channels for collaboration. “Annotate content” and “search and navigation for content” are the top collaborative feature priorities among users, with user and content governance seen as “very important” for driving collaborative content creation and sharing in 2019.
“The most notable spike in increased importance of collaborative business intelligence occurred in 2016, and has not reversed since then,” said Jim Ericson, vice president and research director at Dresner Advisory Services. “Self-service is a significant topic for organizations seeking to better leverage both information resources and human experts to drive improved group-based decision-making within an governed environment.”
Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.
