Atos and startup Rcup create intelligent insoles to reduce accidents at work in manufacturing sector

Paris, May 15, 2019 – Looking ahead to VivaTech, Atos, a global leader in digital transformation, and the startup Rcup, have joined forces to address musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)1 for operators working in industrial environments or medical personnel, with intelligent morphological insoles.

Developed as part of a project called ‘Mission Zero Accident’, these morphological insoles, inserted into safety shoes, are tailor-made for each operator, and reduce back strain. They are also equipped with integrated sensors that collect anonymously, on a daily basis, a large amount of data (loads carried by operators, movements in the factory) which are then transmitted to a secure platform hosted by Atos. They are then analyzed by Machine Learning algorithms.

These algorithms, developed by Atos experts using Google Cloud tools, are used to model MSD risk factors. The results of these analyses are then returned to the actors concerned (operators, managers, human resources, occupational health) in the form of intelligible and actionable indicators. These indicators make it possible to generate alerts in real time and also afterwards, to better understand the exact causes of MSDs and to take appropriate corrective measures.

Thanks to Atos' security expertise, data is perfectly secured with a ‘privacy by design’ approach, right from the design of the insoles and their algorithms.

"Through this global project, Atos mobilizes a wide range of skills (consulting, data science, data protection, development, integration, hosting) and leverages its partnership with Google Cloud, as well as its expertise in the industrial sector, to provide a robust and innovative solution to our clients in the manufacturing sector, but also insurance companies and even medical personnel," says Philippe Mareine, SEVP, Head of Group Human Resources, CSR, Chief Digital & Transformation Officer at Atos.

"Our objective is to put Artificial Intelligence to work for ‘Zero Accident’ and ‘Zero occupational illnesses’, which create pain for individuals and can even lead to disability," adds Frédéric Lassara, founder and CEO at Rcup. "Working with a large group such as Atos allows us to benefit from significantly increased resources and thus accelerate the development of our innovative solutions.”

Leading French groups in the manufacturing, construction and health insurance sectors have already expressed their intention to join the ‘Mission Zero Accident’ project to test the solution, each in its own specific context.

Atos et Rcup's solution will be presented live on the Atos LAB at Viva Technology in Paris (Hall 1, D39), the international meeting place for major groups and start-ups to celebrate innovation. In addition, Atos presents "Atos Technology Days", its annual event, this year around the theme of IoT, from 16 to 18 May.
