PORTERVILLE, Calif., June 05, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GreenPower Motor Company Inc. (TSXV: GPV) (OTCQX: GPVRF) (“GreenPower”) today announced that the Sacramento Regional Transit District (“SacRT”) has received four of the EV Star All-Electric Min-eBuses (“EV Stars”), with the remaining two expected to be delivered in the next two weeks and, separately, that the three additional vehicles ordered in April will be EV Star Transit “Plus” buses – with wheelchair lifts and other ADA features. This latter contract includes three 50kW DC fast-charge stations, to be installed by December 31, 2019, and represents the first order for EV Star Transit Plus models. “We’re very pleased to announce the deployment of our EV Stars in Sacramento as well as the order for our first EV Star Transit Plus models there – along with several fast-charge stations to serve the metropolitan Sacramento area,” said Brendan Riley, President of GreenPower Motor Company. “This marks yet another milestone for GreenPower in California, where we’re strategically positioned to benefit from the state’s ongoing initiatives to reduce greenhouse gases and bring EV transportation alternatives to residents in densely-populated areas. We’re proud to have our buses serve a key role in providing renewable energy mobility and assist handicapped individuals meet their daily transit needs.”
SacRT provides public transportation for the City of Sacramento and most of Northern Sacramento County. Earlier in 2018 SacRT launched SmaRT Ride, an on-demand service in which customers use a smartphone app to request shuttle rides within a designated transit area. SacRT plans to operate its SmaRT Ride shuttle service in 12 Sacramento communities, bringing availability to millions of residents.
The EV Star Transit Plus is the only bus in its class that comes with a standard J1772 level 2 and CCS DC fast combo charge system, allowing for optimal flexibility in route planning for any duty cycle. The bus is eligible for a base voucher of $90,000 from the California HVIP program and an additional voucher of $10,000 when the vehicle is operated in a disadvantaged community.
