Austrian IT security company fragmentiX and AIT Austrian Institute of Technology present product innovations at Europe’s largest expo for IT security
Austrian IT security expert fragmentiX Storage Solutions launches two new top products designed to provide secure cloud storage for companies and private users. The fragmentiX® CLUSTER enables service providers and data centres with high performance requirements to offer an extremely high level of security. The new technology can even fend off attacks from quantum computers and thus guarantees what is called ‘information-theoretic security’. The fragmentiX® mobile app for iOS and Android, which will be available from the fourth quarter of this year, will also enable private users to store their mobile phone or tablet data safely in the cloud. The new solutions have been developed in cooperation with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and will be presented jointly at the leading IT security expo “it-sa” due to take place in Nuremberg from 7 to 10 October 2019.
The new fragmentiX products are based on AIT’s advanced ‘secret sharing’ technology, which is already being used in the existing products fragmentiX® ONE, fragmentiX® THREE and fragmentiX® FOUR. This principle involves splitting data into several fragments which can be stored independently of each other in different locations. The original data will only be restored once a user-defined number of fragments has been reassembled by the fragmentiX® appliances. The expanded product range is designed to address new target groups in order to achieve digital sovereignty both for private individuals and for companies of all sizes.
Top data security in the cloud – even for high performance requirements
The fragmentiX® CLUSTER features 8 redundant 10 GBit/s LAN and WAN interfaces and is client-capable. Service providers can offer each of their clients an isolated user environment. The fragmentiX® CLUSTER is able to serve several hundred individual clients, depending on their individual performance requirements. Client-based billing (CDR) can be implemented as a fee-based service according to individual requirements.
Digital sovereignty for private individuals
The fragmentiX® mobile app to be launched onto the market in the fourth quarter will also enable private individuals to keep their data under their own control. “You would never hand your mobile phone to a complete stranger, even if you are convinced that you have nothing to hide”, says fragmentiX CEO Werner Strasser, giving the reason for introducing the mobile application. The app will enable everyone to decide themselves who should be allowed to view their personal mobile phone data and where they should be stored. The app, which is compatible with Android and iOS, stores data on three pre-defined cloud storage locations. Additional storage locations can be configured using a fee-based app extension.
Effective collaboration from research to product
“AIT’s cryptography experts develop cutting-edge technologies and solutions for our future cybersecurity ecosystem with the aim of combating the emerging threats arising from global and increasingly networked ICT infrastructures, which represent growing potential targets for attack”, says Thomas Lorünser, leading cryptography expert and project manager at the AIT Center for Digital Safety & Security. “Together with the Austrian company fragmentiX we translate leading research and development expertise into innovative solutions for the global market, thus strengthening Austria’s position as a business location.“
About the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria’s largest non-university research institution and is a highly specialised research and development partner for industry. In the context of comprehensive and global networking and digitalisation the Center for Digital Safety & Security is developing modern information and communication technologies (ICT) and systems in order to establish secure and reliable critical infrastructure. Along with cutting edge encryption methods, the AIT experts will also use their presence at “it-sa” to showcase AI-based technologies for detecting cyberattacks on IT systems and model-based design and testing tools ensuring the security and safety of cyberphysical systems (CPS). AIT has also developed an internationally leading forensic technology designed to track financial transactions to combat the abuse of blockchain-based virtual currencies. All AIT solutions will be presented at stand no. 11.0-404. www.ait.ac.at/dss
