The event will feature a panel of renowned battery scientists and researchers who will discuss the current solid-state battery landscape, including:
- Dr. Y Shirley Meng, Professor of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at University of California San Diego. Dr. Meng serves as principal investigator of the Laboratory for Energy Storage and Conversion. There, her solid-state team focuses on enabling novel electrolyte chemistries for high performance all-solid-state batteries.
- Dr. Jeff Sakamoto, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Macromolecular Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan. Dr. Sakamoto’s group synthesizes ceramic solid electrolytes, studies coupled mechanical-electrochemical phenomena, and develops scalable manufacturing processes for solid-state batteries. He is also the founder and CTO of the University of Michigan, solid-state battery startup Zakuro, Inc.
- Dr. Karim Zaghib, previously senior director of research into the development of materials for lithium-ion and solid-state batteries at Hydro-Québec. Dr. Zaghib specializes in solid-state and lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and helped to create the world’s first commercial lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. He is currently a professor at McGill University and a strategic advisor for Investissement Québec.
- Dr. Jürgen Janek, chair of Physical Chemistry at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, and director of the JLU Center for Materials Research and Scientific Director of the BELLA lab at KIT, Karlsruhe. Dr. Janek’s research focuses on inorganic solids, solid-state ionics, solid-state interfaces and new cell concepts.
Dr. Peter Lamp, Head of Battery Cell Technology at the BMW Group, Martin Schuster, Head of Development E-Powertrain at the BMW Group and Ted Miller, Manager of Electrification Subsystems and Power Supply Research from Ford Motor Company will also participate in the panel to provide the automotive perspective on the technology. In May 2021, Ford and the BMW Group expanded existing joint development agreements with Solid Power to secure all-solid-state batteries for future electric vehicles.
The event will be co-hosted by Doug Campbell, co-founder and CEO of Solid Power and James Frith, Head of Energy Storage at BloombergNEF. Frith leads BloombergNEF’s coverage on energy storage technologies and the lithium battery supply chain, providing insights on technology, markets, policies and regulation.
As announced on June 15, 2021, Solid Power has entered into a definitive agreement for a business combination with DCRC, a publicly traded special purpose acquisition company ("SPAC"), that would result in Solid Power becoming a publicly listed company.
