WASHINGTON, Oct. 23, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SOME celebrated its 37th Annual Break the Cycle Gala on Saturday, October 21 at Washington National Cathedral. The event supported the frontline organization’s transformative mission to end poverty and homelessness and honored individuals and organizations whose partnership has helped SOME achieve measurable impact in the Washington region. The organization raised $1.1 million during this year’s Gala, surpassing the amount amassed at last year’s event.
2023 Break the Cycle Gala Honorees included:
- Jeanne and Mark Shriver: Jeanne and Mark Shriver received the Father Horace McKenna Humanitarian Award for their unwavering commitment of time and resources to alleviating homelessness and poverty. Named in honor of SOME’s Jesuit founder, the organization’s most prestigious honor is awarded to community members who have dedicated their lives to service.
- Clark Construction: Clark Construction received the Corporate Champion Award. Since 2014, Clark has awarded SOME more than $1 million in support of its mission. Most recently, Clark Construction built SOME’s newest 15-story, 139-unit affordable housing apartment complex created for single adults, Roberts Residences, in Northeast DC.

The event included a cocktail reception, dinner, open bar, live entertainment, networking and a silent and live auction.
Proceeds from the Gala will support SOME’s life-changing work, which includes providing daily emergency services, healthcare, affordable housing and workforce development services as well as the SOME Place For Kids (SPFK) after school program, which offers more than 150 children homework support, literacy development and academic enrichment activities and healthy snacks.
