Turnaround Management Association Announces Top Honors


CHICAGO, Nov. 9, 1999 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Turnaround Management Association (TMA), the leading organization for professionals in the corporate renewal industry, has announced that Regent Pacific Management Corporation and Manchester Companies, Inc. have received top honors in the Association's annual award program which recognizes professionals in the corporate renewal industry for excellence in the turnaround field.

Regent Pacific Management Corporation, Cupertino, Calif., received the Large Company Turnaround of the Year award for the turnaround of Verity, Inc. Principals of Regent Pacific include Gary J. Sbona, Thomas E. Gardner, James A. Garvey and Stephen W. Young.

Manchester Companies, Inc., Minneapolis, Minn., received the Small Company Turnaround of the Year award for the turnaround of Medical Graphics Corporation. Mark W. Sheffert of Manchester Companies, Inc. is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

The Awards Program also honors selected members and regional chapters for unparalleled service and outstanding contributions to the association on both the national and local levels. Awards include:

TMA Chapter of the Year

The Chicago/Midwest chapter was honored as the 1999 TMA Chapter of the Year for their excellence in local programming and activities for local area TMA members. Faye B. Feinstein, a partner at Atheimer & Gray in Chicago, served as the 1998-99 Chicago/Midwest President.

Most Improved TMA Chapter of the Year

The Northwest chapter was honored as the most improved chapter for 1998-99. The chapter received the award for the remarkable increases in membership, events and programming it demonstrated in 1998-99. John R. Rizzardi with Cairncross & Hempelmann, PS, in Seattle, Wash., served as the 1998-99 Northwest President.

Outstanding Service

David M. Weinstein, Senior Vice President of Congress Financial Corporation in New York, N.Y., was recognized with the Outstanding Service Award. Weinstein has served as president of the New York chapter of TMA, as well as in several national TMA roles. He is currently serving as TMA Vice President of University Relations, working closely with TMA's newly established Academic Advisory Council and the New York University Stern School of Business Salomon Center.

Honorable Mention for Pro Bono Turnaround

Armand P. Lucarelli, president of Capital Restoration, LLC, in Sudbury, MA, and Mark Polebaum of Hale and Dorr, LLP, in Boston, Mass., were awarded an Honorable Mention for the pro bono turnaround of Lena Park Community Development Corporation.

The Turnaround Management Association is a 3,600 member, non-profit association for professionals in the corporate renewal and reorganization industry.
