HERNDON, Va., May 30, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Logicon Inc., a Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) company, has won a 1999 Modeling and Simulation award from the Department of Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO).
The award recognizes Logicon's Consolidated Air Mobility Planning System (CAMPS) software development team, which produced a unique computer program to support the rapid deployment requirements of the Air Mobility Command (AMC). The company was honored for its achievement May 23 during DMSO Industry Days in Vienna, Va.
Before Aerospace Expeditionary Forces deploy, AMC must first position its mission support forces. This must often be done with little advance notice and to any location worldwide. The Logicon team developed a system to rapidly build AMC's portion of the Time Phased Force Deployment Data (TPFDD), which supports the projection of combat forces.
"As the nation continues to reduce the number of military bases and installations overseas, AMC's ability to deploy critical airlift and tanker forces increases in importance," said Roger Fujii, vice president-Systems and Information Technology, Logicon. "We built a powerful tool in TPFDD-in-an-Hour (TIAH) that enables the command to swiftly deploy combat-ready forces."
TIAH enhances the command's capabilities. It provides in-depth analysis, identifies Department of Defense (DoD) forces designated for air movement and supports other programs within CAMPS, which satisfies the air refueling requirement of deploying forces.
"TIAH is efficient and accurate. It reduces the time needed to identify and source mobility assets and this is crucial in meeting combat support requirements," said Robert Leach, project manager and Logicon team leader.
TIAH was one of the initiatives examined in Joint Expeditionary Force Experiment 99 (JEFX), the latest in a series of experiments designed to test cutting-edge military technologies and procedures. The TIAH/JEFX team comprised the Air Combat Command, Electronic Systems Center, AMC and Logicon. Work on TIAH was performed in San Pedro, Calif., Knoxville, Tenn., Omaha, Neb. and Scott AFB, Ill.
The DMSO Modeling and Simulation awards recognize government and non-government achievement in support of DoD modeling and simulation objectives. Two individuals or teams, one government and one non-government, were selected in each of four award categories. Eighty-eight nominations were received in 1999.
