The Nokia 22 connectivity device provides wireless connections in a fixed line environment

Nokia is extending its product offering for corporate customers by introducing a new Private Branch Exchange (PBX) connectivity terminal, the Nokia 22. The Nokia 22 is an ideal solution for small and middle-sized enterprises (SME) that currently face the phenomenon of increasing telephone traffic from landline telephones to cellular phones. Comprising a dualband 900/1800 GSM terminal and a connectivity device, the Nokia 22 serves as a gateway between a PBX and GSM network. It allows utilization of affordable mobile-to-mobile telephone charges, enabling routing of incoming and outgoing calls from landline telephones via the mobile telephone network.

"In a world of increasing cellular penetration, the high cost of landline-to-GSM calls easily becomes an issue for budget-conscious small- or medium-sized companies. With the Nokia 22 we provide a solution for bypassing landline telephone costs when calling to or from a GSM phone. It gives our customers the freedom to enjoy a variety of GSM features and services from their fixed line environment. For cellular operators, this is an attractive business opportunity as it allows them to offer new versatile service packages to their SME customers, " says Hannu Huttunen, Vice President, Special Products, Nokia Mobile Phones.

The Nokia 22 offers versatile interfaces to the fixed line world. It can be connected not only to the trunk line but also to the extension line of the PBX, as well as to ISDN PBXs with an analog extension. The implementation of the connectivity terminal is simple and inexpensive. Once installed, the use is easy and actually invisible to the end user.

For effortless implementation and maintenance of the Nokia 22, intelligent Nokia 22 Configurator Software with remote management functionality is available. The optional back-up battery ensures uninterrupted operation of the unit in cases of occasional power losses, and the AutoPIN feature enables recovery of the device without on-site activities. Compact-sized, attractively designed, the Nokia 22 does not require a cabinet or special mounting, but easily fits various operational environments. The device provides GSM +2 supplementary services and supports High Speed Circuit Switched Data (HSCSD) with a transfer rate of 43,2 kbits/s.
