OpenCable, an initiative of CableLabs(r), recently announced the formal selection of the DVB-MHP standard as the core of the Open Cable Application Platform (OCAP) standard. The OCAP software specification solves the problem of proprietary operating system software by creating a common platform upon which interactive services may be deployed. The OpenCable set-top box will allow the cable household to access both digital broadcasting and interactive digital applications. The SNAP2 tools will allow content creators and application developers to build new interactive applications that target these new set-top boxes.

The SNAP2 GEAR for OCAP tools will be available pending the finalization of the OCAP specification.
