WJ Communications Announces Commercial Availability of New Clock Driver/Phase Shifter

Hybrid OC-192 Product Expands Product Line for Long and Ultra-Long Haul Networks

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 4, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- WJ Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:WJCI) today announces commercial availability of the CA-1249, a densely integrated half-rate clock driver capable of providing the high voltage levels required by optical return-to-zero (RZ) systems for advanced OC-192 fiber optic networks. The CA-1249 is just one model in WJ's portfolio of hybrid-based products optimized for existing and emerging fiber optic networks.

The CA-1249 takes a 10.7-12.5 GHz signal and produces a 5.35-6.25 GHz output controllable from 5 to 16V(pk-pk) for driving LiNbO(3) modulators. Analog controlled phase-shift of 360 degrees enables simple control for synchronization and creation of optical RZ pulses.

"With orthogonal RF and DC connects, this unique package enables our customers to outsource their line card assembly to surface mount contract manufacturers with little or no RF experience," says James A. Mravca, Senior Vice President, Fiber Optic Products of WJ Communications. "This gives our customers the flexibility and costs savings they need."

"The CA-1249's smooth transition into volume production is a testament to WJ's cross-functional design teams and will serve as the foundation for producing more products for OC-192 as we continue to expand our customer base and product line," says Skip Hoover, Executive Vice President, Business Development of WJ Communications. "Production of the CA-1249 leverages WJ's highly-automated thin-film, hybrid assembly line and patented process technology."

Key features include excellent phase shift accuracy (+/- 25 degrees), low phase shift variation over the -5 degrees C to +70 degrees C operating temperature range (0.667 degrees C) and stable output power level versus phase change (1.5 dB). The CA-1249 is 3" L x 1" W x 0.41" H, excluding the guideposts. The unit operates from +8V and -15V biases. All units are fully tested and delivered with all data necessary to pick control breakpoints or program control loops.

Production and sample quantities are available now from WJ Communications, Inc.
