DALLAS, Jan. 9, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- (WITH PHOTO) Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Integrated Systems sector today announced the appointment of Gary W. Ervin as sector vice president, Air Combat Systems (ACS). Mr. Ervin succeeds Scott J. Seymour, who recently was named corporate vice president and president of the company's Integrated Systems sector.
Mr. Ervin, 44, is responsible for the overall management of the ACS business area of Integrated Systems, based in El Segundo, Calif. The business area has designed and integrated some of the U.S. military's most advanced manned and unmanned aircraft systems, including the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, the Global Hawk unmanned reconnaissance aircraft system, the Fire Scout vertical tactical unmanned aerial vehicle and the X-47A Pegasus unmanned experimental vehicle. Mr. Ervin also oversees Northrop Grumman's work as a principal subcontractor on the F/A-18 Super Hornet and Joint Strike Fighter programs.
Prior to this promotion, he served as vice president and deputy of ACS. He joined Northrop Grumman in that position in August 2001 after serving 22 years with Lockheed Martin Skunk Works in Palmdale, Calif., most recently as vice president, Advanced Development Programs. Other assignments with Lockheed Martin included director, Special Technology; deputy program manager, F-117 Stealth Fighter; and director, X-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics systems science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
The company also announced the promotion of Steven R. Briggs as vice president and deputy, ACS. Prior to his promotion, Mr. Briggs, 60, served as vice president and F/A-18 program manager since 1998. While directing all activities on the F/A-18 Hornet strike fighter program, he also managed its business development and international activities. Before joining Northrop Grumman in 1997, Mr. Briggs served for 34 years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of rear admiral.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
