Northrop Grumman Signs Outsourcing Contract to Manage Data Center for Texas Department of Criminal Justice

HERNDON, Va., Feb. 11, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has selected Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) to manage the department's data center operations, representing a further expansion of the company's information technology outsourcing services to state agencies. The six-year contract has a potential value of $33.8 million to Northrop Grumman's Information Technology sector.

The work will be performed at the West Texas Disaster Recovery and Operations Center (WTDROC) located on the campus of Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. The company currently manages the WTDROC under a contract with the Texas Department of Information Resources, and offers full data center outsourcing, disaster recovery, applications and desktop seat management services for state agencies, universities and local governments.

"The addition of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will double the processing capacity of the WTDROC and is an important step in the center's growth," said Ed Serna, program manager, Northrop Grumman Information Technology. "As more state customers move their data center operations to the WTDROC, they will benefit from the greater efficiencies and capabilities generated by this advanced data center."

The TDCJ operates prisons and other state correctional facilities, the parole system and provides funding and certain oversight of community supervision, a function previously known as adult probation. It becomes the seventh Texas state agency to outsource its data center operations to the WTDROC.

In addition to TDCJ, Northrop Grumman provides data center outsourcing services at the WTDROC to the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Mental Health and Retardation Department, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and Angelo State University. The company also provides IT outsourcing services to the Texas Department of Human Services.
