Net Insight and Transmode Collaborate to Optimize Fiber Utilization in Existing Metro Infrastructure

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 5, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Transmode Systems AB, a pioneer of WDM technology and Net Insight (SSX:NETI B), a leading provider of realtime broadband infrastructure technology, have signed a partnership agreement to promote a joint solution for metro frontier networks.

Under the agreement Net Insight will resell Transmode's products and the companies will jointly market a bundled metro and media network solution in Europe and USA.

"Transmode and Net Insight both have best-of-breed products that combine to offer outstanding performance and functionality in the metro and media network segments. The partnership is formed to meet existing customer demand and we already have customers testing our joint solution," said Tomas Duffy, CEO of Net Insight.

Transmode's products provide a completely protocol independent solution to the diverse requirements of metro and access networks. The current product portfolio exploits the latest optical technology to provide CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) solutions for up to 16 wavelengths over a single optical fiber. In combination with Net Insight's highly efficient use of each wavelength's bandwidth, the joint solution offers high capacity and service protection to an unmatched price level.

Traditionally, wavelength systems are mostly deployed in the large optical backbones. However, the demand for higher capacity in metro and edge networks is rapidly increasing as operators introduce streaming media oriented services. Analysts firm Pioneer Consulting expects the metro WDM market to grow from an estimated 1,7 BUSD in 2002 to 7 BUSD in 2005.

"We are confident that this market driven partnership will strengthen our position on the metro network market significantly. Together our products combine the best in WDM and metro edge switching to optimally utilize the fiber infrastructure and enable fast return on investment for operators and service providers," said Isaac Olasoko, CEO of Transmode Systems.

More About the Solution

With today's fiber pricing, Net Insight and Transmode's joint solution can be calculated to be more cost effective already when there is a need to start using a second fiber pair.

The solution supports a number of logical network topologies including ring, mesh and point-to-point applications, and offers per service channel protection. Both product lines offer full network management capabilities, and can be monitored from the same management system. The products facilitate upgrades, allowing service providers to deploy additional capacity channel-by-channel to better meet with their customer's requirements.
