NCC to Build New Parking Garage in Central Stockholm for about SEK 100 Million

SOLNA, Sweden, Sept. 2, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- NCC has been commissioned by Stockholm Parkering to build a new 250-vehicle parking garage at S:t Eriksplan in central Stockholm. The order is worth approximately SEK 100 million.

The parking garage is a feature of efforts that have been under way for several years to improve the traffic situation in the Vasastan district of Stockholm. The additional parking spaces are welcomed by people who live and work in the area. The contract also includes sheet pile driving and excavation work, as well as demolition of an existing underground squash hall. A pedestrian bridge will be built outside the entrances to stores in the area to provide pedestrians with access to the retail premises during the construction period.

Work will commence in September and proceed in several stages. The entire parking garage is scheduled for completion in April 2004. In total, about 30 employees will be engaged in the project.

"Since the parking garage will be built directly adjacent to existing buildings, the project requires careful planning and implementation. For example, we will be using steel-core piles instead of conventional concrete piles in order to minimize noise and vibrations," said Thomas Krekula, Business Manager at NCC Construction Sverige.
