QLogic 2Gb Fibre Channel Switches and Host Bus Adapters Certified for Use with Dot Hill SANnet II Storage Solution

Products Certified Include QLogic's New SANbox2-64, The Industry's Largest Modular Fabric Switch

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. and CARLSBAD, Calif., June 26, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the company that powers storage area networks (SANs), today announced its entire line of award-winning 2 Gb/sec Fibre Channel switches, including its new SANbox2-64(tm) switch, the industry's largest modular, fabric switch, has been certified for use with the SANnet(r) II Fibre Channel (FC) storage solution from Dot Hill Systems Corp. (AMEX:HIL). Also certified is SANblade QLA2340 Series of 2Gb/sec PCI/PCI-X-to-Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs).

The SANnet II FC from Dot Hill, a leading provider of storage networking solutions, is a complete storage solution for Windows, Linux and UNIX platforms. SANnet II FC storage solutions feature 12 disk drive bays, single or dual controllers and AC or DC power supplies in a compact 2U (3.5 inches high) enclosure. Capacity scales without interruption by adding one or more expansion systems, providing an additional 12 disk drive bays each. The solution features end-to-end 2 Gbit/sec Fibre Channel technology with support for both SAN and traditional direct attached storage (DAS) architectures. The SANnet II FC features eight built-in host ports to support connections to Fibre Channel switches as well as direct fabric connections to Fibre Channel equipped servers -- making it ideal for growing workgroup storage requirements.

"QLogic infrastructure products combined with Dot Hill's rugged SANnet II Fibre Channel solutions offer a highly available, scalable and interoperable storage solution," said Omar Barraza, director of marketing for Dot Hill. "The flexibility of the solution makes it well suited for a variety of applications and environments, such as high-availability clustering, workgroup storage consolidation, remote office infrastructure, as well as initial Fibre Channel deployments."

"Our broad line of Fibre Channel infrastructure products -- including our award-winning SANbox2 switches available in 8-, 16- and 64-port configurations -- provides maximum flexibility to customers choosing Dot Hill's SANnet II Fibre Channel solution," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. "With a broad range of QLogic-certified infrastructure components, Dot Hill users can scale the SANnet II Fibre Channel solution to fit a wide variety of computing environments."

QLogic SANbox2 Switches

QLogic SANbox2 switches make it easy for small and medium-sized enterprises to connect many new or legacy servers to shared storage devices, fully leveraging the power of SANs. QLogic SANbox2 switches enable high-performance switched storage networking at affordable prices while protecting investments in 1Gb equipment. SANbox2 switches allow businesses to easily build powerful storage networks that are interoperable with servers, networking equipment and storage subsystems.

Introduced in April, the SANbox2-64 incorporates the same architecture as QLogic's award-winning SANbox2 16 port switch for seamless plug-compatibility with servers, storage, switches and software certified with SANbox2 16-port switches. The unique architecture of the SANbox2-64, which features a 4U single chassis that allows hot-swapping of 8-port switch blades, can be easily scaled from 32 to 64 ports in increments of 8. The SANbox2 cost-effectively eliminates the cumbersome cabling and management of multi-switch fabrics and doesn't sacrifice precious ports for inter-switch links (ISLs).

With dual redundant power supplies and fans for high availability, the SANbox2-64 products can also be configured in redundant pairs to offer 99.999 percent availability for mission-critical applications, a much less expensive alternative to installing a pair of director-class switches.

QLogic SANblade QLA2340 Series Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters

QLogic's SANblade QLA2340 Series 2Gb/sec 133 MHz PCI/PCI-X-to-Fibre Channel host bus adapters is designed for optimal performance in SAN and cluster environments, doubling storage throughput over standard PCI products and offering best-in-class SAN performance and functionality. This flagship line offers an extensive checklist of features and benefits that is unmatched in the industry including performance of up to 80,000 Input/Output operations per second (IOPs) and more than 800 Mb of throughput. The SANblade 2340 Series features a unique "bridgeless" dual channel HBA, eliminating the severe performance degradation of PCI-X bridges used in competitive HBAs. Additionally, it is the only Fibre Channel HBA to offer native support for Sun Solaris as well as all other major operating systems including Microsoft(r) Windows NT(r) and Windows 2000, Novell(r) NetWare, Red Hat(r) Linux(r) and SuSE Linux.

SANnet II Family of Storage Systems

The SANnet II family of storage systems provides industry-leading 99.9998+ percent uptime in a compact, rugged enclosure. SANnet II brings enterprise class features into the workgroup and virtually eliminates downtime with no single points of failure. The common modular architecture of the SANnet II product family provides seamless scalability for future growth.

SANnet II FC solutions deliver very fast performance -- up to 160,000 transactions per second from cache. Disk drive options include 36GB or 73GB 15,000 RPM units and 36GB, 73GB or 146GB 10,000 RPM units. Dot Hill's SANscape(r) and SANpath(r) storage software enable comprehensive remote management and secure storage networking. Professional training, support and service delivered jointly with Dot Hill's reseller partners complete the solution.

All SANnet II products feature hot-swappable, field replaceable components including drives, controllers, power supplies, fans and event monitoring units. This product line meets MIL-STD-810F standards for the U.S. Department of Defense and is certified to the telecommunications industry NEBS Level 3 standard.
