SANblade HBAs Link HP 9000 Superdome, Midrange and Entry-Level Servers to HP StorageWorks Systems and Storage Area Networks

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Aug. 13, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the company that powers storage area networks (SANs), today announced its SANblade 2342 Series PCI-X host bus adapters (HBAs) will be available with HP 9000 servers running HP-UX 11i version 1, including HP 9000 Superdome, HP 9000 midrange and HP 9000 entry-level servers. In addition, the QLogic SANblade QLA2342 has also been qualified with the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array, Virtual Array, Disk Array XP families, and HP StorageWorks tape libraries.

SANblade QLA2340 Series PCI-X HBAs

PCI-X HBAs from QLogic offer both added performance and flexibility and enable enterprise customers to use multiple PCI-X buses at different speeds. Designed to serve leading server and storage companies like HP that have embraced the new 133MHz PCI-X standard, the SANblade QLA2340 family of HBAs delivers double the throughput of the 66MHz PCI interface that is commonly found in server platforms today. The SANblade 2342 Series PCI-X HBA are expected to be generally available across the full line of HP 9000 servers in Fall 2003.

The SANblade QLA2340 Series is the company's flagship line with an extensive checklist of features and benefits that is unmatched in the industry, including:

 * Highest-performance- up to 80,000 Input/Output operations per
   second and up to 800 Mbytes of throughput per second

 * Native support in all major operating systems including
   Microsoft(r) Windows NT(r) and Windows 2000, Novell(r) NetWare,
   Linux, and Sun Solaris

 * Single-chip ISP2312 architecture for increased reliability and more
   compact, versatile design

 * Single and dual channel versions to maximize performance and the
   use of precious PCI-X slots

 * Support for new 133MHz PCI-X designs and unique legacy support for
   PCI servers

 * Common driver interface for PCI-X, PCI, cPCI and SBus versions

 * Support for 2Gb/second and 1Gb/second speeds

 * Unique "bridgeless" dual channel HBA eliminates the severe
   performance overhead of PCI-X bridges used in competitive HBAs

The flagship of the HP 9000 family is the HP 9000 Superdome server, an industry-leading high-end UNIX server with exceptional performance, partitioning, connectivity and availability. HP's award-winning HP 9000 rp7410 and rp8400 midrange servers are loaded with critical features that serve as the foundation for successful businesses around the world, while the HP 9000 rp2400 series and rp5400 series entry-level servers are designed with the pricing, performance and expandability to optimize IT investments. A co-developer of the Intel(r) Itanium(r) processor family architecture with Intel, HP also offers a broad range of servers based on the Itanium processor architecture that are optimized for HP-UX, Windows(r) and Linux environments.
