A Natural Hunter-Gatherer Diet with a Holistic Bodyweight Workout; New Book Presents Effective Nutrition and Fitness Program for Those with Little Time and Money

NEW YORK, August 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Millions of Americans struggle with diets and exercise programs countless times every year. While the obesity problem has been cited in numerous studies nationally and worldwide, Americans find themselves flopping from diet to diet to exercise programs trying to run, sweat, burn and starve off the pounds. Now, Tamir B. Katz, M.D., introduces an effective new diet and exercise program in his new book, TBK Fitness Program (now available through 1stBooks).

"The book was written to provide the average person with solid information on achieving weight loss, fitness and preventing disease in a healthy, natural, convenient and inexpensive manner," Dr. Katz says.

Unlike many weight loss or fitness books that focus either on diet or on exercise, his program is a comprehensive fitness program that includes both a bodyweight exercise plan, as well as a natural, hunter-gatherer type diet. The exercise plan contains over 60 different exercises with varied difficulties, which target all of the body's muscle groups. Many other exercise books focus either on strength, cardiovascular fitness or flexibility, while Dr. Katz's book develops all three within one set of exercises. They are time efficient, while others may take a half hour or more. His exercises take only a few minutes and require no equipment whatsoever.

In a similar fashion, the nutrition section teaches good eating habits. He points out beneficial foods to emphasize, like fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meat, poultry, fish and eggs and nuts and seeds. He also includes foods to avoid, all while informing the reader on why certain foods are good and why others are not. In addition, he provides scientific rationale for the diet as well as a discussion of nutrition and food's role in different diseases, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity.

"It is THE program to follow for those with very little time, those who don't have too much money, those who travel frequently and pretty much anyone else," Dr. Katz states.

Dr. Katz is a graduate of Stony Brook School of Medicine and received his bachelor's degree in biology from Cornell University. Since 1993, Katz has been studying different diet and exercise systems. Currently, Dr. Katz provides health and fitness information through his website at www.tbkfitness.com. He lives in New York with his wife and daughter. TBK Fitness is his first book.
