Akzo Nobel appoints Senior Vice President Human Resources


ARNHEM, The Netherlands, Sept. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Akzo Nobel (Other OTC:AKZOF)(Nasdaq:AKZOY) has appointed Paul L. Matson (54) as Senior Vice President of Human Resources to succeed Olle Werner who will retire this month. Mr. Matson will take up his new post on October 1, 2003, and will report to Hans Wijers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Akzo Nobel.

A U.S. citizen with extensive experience with operations in Europe and Asia, Mr. Matson has 30 years of business experience covering all aspects of the human resources field. He has worked in international companies in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, such as Bayer, SmithKline Beckman, and most recently Pharmacia as Global Director of Human Resources.
